Project Description
The existing intersection is deficient due to poor intersection geometrics, sight distance and crash history. A study of various alternatives concluded that a single lane modern roundabout was the best alternative for improving the intersection.
Project Location:
The project site is located at the intersection of Cheshire Road (County Road 72) and 3 B’s and K Road (Township Road 35), about 4 miles west of Sunbury, Ohio.
Construction Updates
09-18-2012: Cheshire Road to Close at 3B’s & K on September 26 for 6 weeks:
The final phase of construction on the new single lane roundabout at the intersection of Cheshire Road and South 3B’s & K Intersection will begin September 26. The work will require closure of the intersection for about 6 weeks to allow crews to construct the center island of the roundabout and rebuild the Cheshire Road approaches to the intersection. All legs of the intersection will remain closed until mid-November when the roundabout is scheduled to open.
07-27-2012: South 3B’s & K Road to Close South of Cheshire Road August 6 for 4 months:
Construction of a new single lane modern roundabout at the intersection of Cheshire Road and South 3B’s & K Road will begin August 6. 3B’s & K Road south of the intersection will be the first road to close for construction, and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Construction contract awarded to low bidder, Double Z Construction of Columbus, Ohio. Contract amount $1,371,094.
Estimated Project Cost
The current project budget is $1.5 million including engineering, right of way acquisition and construction. Up to $486,200 in funding assistance provided by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. Remainder of funding provided by Delaware County.
