Public Meeting – October 14, 2026
The County Engineer’s Office is hosting a public meeting at the Berlin Township Hall on October 14, 2026 from 4 pm – 6 pm to provide information about the project. The meeting is an open house format with no scheduled presentation. The following information will be shared at the meeting.
Project Description:
The Delaware County Engineer’s Office (DCEO) will extend Roloson-Piatt Road from the current terminus to the intersection of Curve Road and Roloson Road to improve mobility within existing and developing areas of Berlin Township. Work consists of a new 3-lane roadway and a single-lane modern roundabout at the intersection of Curve Road, Roloson Road and Roloson-Piatt Road.
Project Limits:
The proposed improvements will begin at the current terminus of Roloson-Piatt Road, approximately 0.58 miles north of the peanut roundabout on Berlin Station Road located near Berlin High School. The project ends at a new single-lane modern roundabout to be constructed at the intersection of Curve Road, Roloson Road and Roloson-Piatt Road. Work will extend approximately 400’ in each direction along Curve Road and 500’ north along Roloson Road from the current intersection. A new storm pipe will be constructed along the west side of Dale Ford Road from 1000’ south of Curve Road (across from the electric tower) to the existing culvert located 275’ south of Curve Road.
Safety Considerations:
Single-lane roundabouts have been shown to be safer than traditional intersections. Compared to stop-controlled or traffic signal intersections, roundabouts are proven to reduce both the number and severity of crashes. Power outages don’t affect roundabouts and motorists don’t experience any delay at a roundabout when traffic is light.
Project Details:
- No on-site sewer/septic systems will be disturbed with this project.
- Any yard drains or tiles within the project limits will be connected to the storm sewers as needed.
- Properties with driveways relocated to the new road will be given a new address on Roloson-Piatt Road.
- Street lights will be installed at the roundabout.
- A retention pond will be constructed for drainage management.
Proposed Project Schedule & Potential Closures:
Design and Engineering: 2025 to 2026
Right-of-Way Acquisition: 2027
Utility Relocations: 2028
Construction: 2028 to 2029
The project will be constructed in two parts. The extension of Roloson-Piatt Road can be constructed with no disruption to existing traffic patterns, except for the existing driveways. Construction of the roundabout requires the complete closure of the intersection of Curve, Roloson and Roloson-Piatt Roads for approximately 2 months.
Access will be maintained to all properties and mailboxes within the work zone. Public notification of closures will be given in advance through the DCEO and electronic sign boards. Detour routes will be posted with appropriate signage.
Estimated Project Cost:
The current cost of construction is approximately $4.3 million dollars. Funding is a combination of Delaware County funds and a special assessment on the Berlin Farm and Berlin Farm West developments.
